Following the public art exhibition in Aberdeen of 50 unique giant fiberglass dolphin sculptures, an auction of the pieces will take place on Wednesday September 10th by Aberdeen Northern Marts at Aberdeen’s Music Hall. The sale will raise funds for two fantastic local charities; The ARCHIE Foundation and Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC).
This exciting sale will feature all of the uniquely designed dolphins that have been a part of the public exhibition called ‘Wild Dolphins.’ The sculptures have been springing up all over the city in various locations including the beach, shopping centers, museums and Torry Battery, itself a great spot for real dolphin watching.
Each sculpture has been individually designed by a local artist and finished dolphin designs have included a disco dolphin, a Spiderman dolphin and a pirate dolphin. Materials such as willow and knitted woollen patchwork have even featured in these creative pieces.
It is expected that the lots will fetch in excess of £2000 each at the auction, with some fetching considerably more.
The ARCHIE foundation is the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s hospital and supports local sick children and their families when help is needed most. WDC defends the conservation and protection of whales who live around Scottish shores through campaigns, field research, lobbying and rescue.
The designs will be on display at at Marischal College Quad, Aberdeen between Friday 5th September and Sunday 7th September and the opening hours are Friday 8.30am – 5.30pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm. A sponsored drinks reception will be provided from 7pm and the auction will follow at 7.45pm at Aberdeen’s Music Hall.
