Durrants Auction Rooms based in Beccles, Suffolk, are holding a sale that is the result of one man’s lifetime passion for militaria and military vehicles; The Peter Sayer Collection. Peter Sayer was was a Royal Engineer stationed in Egypt during the Second World War. During this time he worked on military railway engines and motorised vehicles influencing him to start a collection of his own, which he began in the early 1970’s. Peter Sayer dedicated his spare time to restoring the military vehicles to their original working condition and best possible running order.
The sale features a vast collection of uniforms, radios and mine detecting sets, complete in their original crates with the cable laying reel and rods. Fans of historic military vehicles will appreciate the 1943 Bedford M.W. 15 cwt truck on offer, fitted with radio set No.19, it is in full running order which up until recently rallied in the UK and Europe.
For a new collector to the market Lot 39 could prove interesting, an array of vintage items containing car related documents, typewriters and even a Bakelite telephone. The radio collection spans from very early Second World War units through to some post war examples. Lot 114 is radio set No. 38 which comes complete with throat mike, arial, headset and instruction booklet. The collection also features extensive tools and workshop goods.
All vehicles have been restored to an extremely high standard and come with their original V5 documents. Some have been exhibited in the UK and abroad having been driven there and back again – they have never travelled via a low loader.
