The earliest know Rover SD1 is entered into the specialist auction of classic cars and motorcycles at Charterhouse in February.

“It is an historic vehicle, being a V8 engine pre-production development car made in 1975 and carrying chassis number 5.” Commented Matthew Whitney. “I have always had a soft spot for Rover SD1’s, having owned several in my early 20’s, although I always had SD1’s with the smaller engines and not the full blown 3500cc V8.”

Today, Rover SD1’s are a rare sight on our roads. The car is entered from a car collection in Devon and is being sold due to the reorganisation the collection and pressure from his wife who has never liked the car!

This V8 Rover was originally featured on the cover of Autocar in 1975, when it was in stealth mode camouflaged in what appears to be black rubber to hide its identification and overall look. Moving forward nearly 40 years, this piece of motoring history is estimated by Charterhouse at £7,000-9,000 in their classic car and motorcycle auction at The Royal Bath & West Showground on Sunday 16th February.

Charterhouse is now accepting for their forthcoming programme of auctions including their Beswick and Royal Doulton and other antiques auction in January and classic cars and motorcycles in February.
